Question:

Does the use of MPEG-21 DRM prevent the usage of superdistribution in AXMEDIS ?

Answer:

NO, absolutely not. AXMEDIS FulLY support superdistribution. With AXMEDIS you can distribute and share protected objects via P2P, the single objects are not protected for the single user, in general. On the other hand, with AXMEDIS tools, you can even reach that precision in protecting object. You can create a distinct object with a distinct protection for each user specifically for its license, etc.

Question:

Does the use of MPEG-21 in AXMEDIS cut down the transportability of media among different devices and platforms ?

Answer:

AXMEDIS is not based only on MPEG-21, AXMEDIS tools for content processing can work with any file (audio, video, images, document, animations, html, smil, mpeg4, oma, mxf, etc.). It can produce also MPEG-21, when an object is an MPEG-21 package it has more information of a single image or document, and as cons lost its identity in terms of simple file format e.g. TIF< GIF, etc.

This identity in effect is not lost internally, and any AXMEDIS player/editor may extract it according to the DRM. The advantages are the possibility of managing all content type in a uniform manner, standard metadata, etc. In addition AXMEDIS players are:

  • players also for other content types such as document, images, video, etc.

  • available for PC, Apple MAC OS, PDA, and STB/PVR, thus the transportability is guaranteed.
