The Distributed Multimedia Applications Group (DMAG) is part of the Technology Dept. ('Departament de Tecnologia') at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), where it exists from 1999. However, the group was created in late 80s at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), inside the Computer Architecture Dept. ('Departament d' Arquitectura de Computadors'). Currently, there are about 20 people in the group, having a PhD nearly half of them. Furthermore, all of them are lecturing either in the Computer Science or in the Telecommunication Engineering studies of the UPF. The current research and development activities mainly deal with the electronic commerce of multimedia services and products, use of metadata to organise and search for information, and all aspects of security, digital rights management, and mobility.
